Seven scenes in Bollywood movies that will definitely make you laugh out loud!- by Kinjal

If a movie can make you cry, it’s good, if it can make you fall in love, it’s even better but if a movie can make you snort, giggle and laugh out loud then it is definitely the best. I am a Bollywood buff and I love watching Bollywood movies but my favourite ones are those that have a generous dose of comedy in it and evoke a lot of laughter. At times I may have forgotten the exact storyline of a movie or the names of characters but the one thing that I always remember even if I have watched the movie a long time ago are the scenes that made me burst into peals of laughter.

Below is a list of the seven most hilariously comedic Bollywood scenes that always make me laugh no matter how many times I see them.

1. Kuch Kuch Hota Hai (1998)

While this movie is an out and out romantic film, it does have some comic characters and funny scenes which makes this Karan Johar film all the more endearing. The main love triangle between Rahul, Tina and Anjali played by Shahrukh Khan, Rani Mukherjee and Kajol respectively is heart-warming and a delight to watch but there is another love story in the background that is hard to forget. Yes, I’m talking about the adorable and comical love story of Mr. Malhotra and Miss Briganza ahaa! Anupam Kher as the love struck Mr. Malhotra behaves like a starry-eyed romantic teenage boy and Archana Puran Singh as the spunky and sassy Miss Briganza are definitely a pair to watch out for.

2. Josh (2000)

Josh starring Shahrukh Khan, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Chandrachur Singh is a movie based in Goa that explores the enmity between two rival gangs- the Bichhoos (Scorpions) who are Hindu migrants and the Eagles lead by Shahrukh Khan who are Catholic Christians. While the movie has some gritty action scenes and heart fluttering romance, it also has some funny scenes that offer some comic relief. The best one and my absolute favourite is when Shirley played by Aishwarya who is Max ‘s sister (Shahrukh Khan) visits Treat House owned by Rahul (Chandrachur Singh) and secretly plants a basket full of rats in the bakery owing to their enmity with Rahul’s brother who is the leader of the rival gang. What ensues is utter chaos and hilarity resulting in a scene that cracks me up every time I watch it.

3. Dil Chahta Hai (2001)

There is no better movie about true friends and lasting friendships than Dil Chahta Hai. This movie was singlehandedly responsible for making Goa the official destination for friends to chill and vacation together. Apart from exploring the beautiful bond of friendship between Sameer, Akash and Sid, played by Saif Ali Khan, Aamir Khan and Akshaye Khanna, this movie has some truly romantic scenes and a subtle sense of humour that is refreshing and sometimes outright funny. According to me the best comic scene is when Sameer is dumped by his bossy, overbearing and high-handed girlfriend Priya and Saif Ali Khan’s reaction in this scene is outrageously funny!

4. Kal Ho Naa Ho (2003)

This was one of the most beautiful films written by Karan Johar and although it is has intensely emotional and heart breaking scenes that make you cry bucket loads and clutch tightly to a packet of tissue papers, it does have some really hilarious and funny scenes that deserves a mention. According to me the best and most funny scenes are when Rohit’s (Saif Ali Khan) maid Kantaben mistakes Rohit and Aman (Shah Rukh Khan) as gay. What makes this scene priceless is Kantaben’s reaction when she mistakes both these handsome hunks as a gay couple.

5. Hulchul (2004)

This movie is a romcom that revolves around the enmity between two families- Angar Chand (Amrish Puri) and Laxmi Devi who have been sworn enemies due to an incident that happened 14 years ago. However, Angar Chand’s youngest son, Jai played by Akshaye Khanna falls in love with Laxmi Devi’s grand-daughter Anjali. Both the families are greatly disturbed and enraged to learn this and are against Jai and Anjali’s wedding. As a result Laxmi Devi fixes Anjali’s wedding with another man however Jai who is determined to marry his love breaks into the wedding and disguises himself as the groom.  What follows is utterly hilarious and the entire wedding scene (the climax) is so comical and ridiculously funny that it always makes me laugh out loud.

6. Main Hoon Na (2004)

This was one of the most entertaining Bollywood movies I have watched and it has almost every conceivable element in it – Romance (lots and lots of it) drama, action and the kind of comedy that makes you burst into helpless fits of laughter. Even today when I see the scenes where Professor Rasai aka Mr. Spitter portrayed by the excellent actor Satish Shah, who shouts, screams and unloads a barrage of spittle on the poor unsuspecting students it is just too funny for words. Every scene that involves Professor Rasai is guaranteed to make you laugh long and hard.

7. Dostana (2008)

This movie, a romantic comedy, is a laugh riot that revolves around two handsome, single men- Kunal (John Abraham) and Sam (Abhishek Bachchan) who pretend to be gay lovers in order to rent an apartment in Miami. However things soon spiral out of control when they both fall in love with their roommate Neha (Priyanka Chopra). It is hilarious to watch how the two men pretend to be gay lovers while simultaneously fighting for the affections of another girl. While almost every scene in the movie is amusing and too funny for words, the scene where Sam’s mother Rani (essayed by the phenomenal actress Kirron Kher) discovers her son’s sexuality is a show stealer. This scene of confrontation is followed by the song ‘Maa Da Ladla’ and they are my most favourite comic scenes in the movie.

According to me all these seven Bollywood scenes are hilarious and will definitely leave you in splits. I hope you all enjoy watching, or in certain cases re-watching, these amazingly entertaining and humorous scenes as much as I did.
